The lighting crew is the custodian of the lighting equipment and is responsible for maintaining the equipment in operating condition and keeping the equipment is in a safe operating condition.

For a production, the lighting crew is responsible for setting the lighting instruments and operating the equipment during the performances.

The crew works with the director and/or lighting designer to execute the stage lighting design and electrical special effects for a designated production.

Typical procedures for a production:

• Read the script noting required lighting and cues.
• Meet with the director or designer to determine special lighting requirements.
• Canvass instruments to determine that enough are available.
• Inventory lamps, gels, cables and supplies arranging for more as needed.
• Schedule a session(s) to hang and focus the light instruments.
• Program and document the light cues.
• Attend rehearsals to practice operating the lighting cues.
• During the run of a production inspect and maintain the lighting instruments.
• At the end of a production, properly store instruments and replenish supplies.

SOUND

The sound crew is the custodian is responsible for operating the sound system during the run of a production.

The crew is may be responsible for arranging for renting amplification equipment to augment the existing system.

The crew works with the director to execute the required sound amplification and sound effects for a designated production.

Typical procedures for a production:

• Read the script noting required sound effects and cues.
• Meet with the director or designer to determine special sound requirements.
• May become involved in finding, selecting, creating, and recording sound effects.
• May become involved in selecting recorded music.
• Document the detailed sound cues.
• Attend rehearsals to practice operating the sound cues.
• During the run of a production test and maintain the sound system.
• At the end of a production, properly store sound equipment and supplies.
